Register 1: Meeting of lovers (courting couples); lady crowning her kneeling lover with a chaplet. Courting couple; youth with a hawk on his wrist; youth feeding a hawk; lady with a hawk on her wrist; lady feeding a hawk.
Register 2: couple playing chess in a tent; man with his left hand around the pole supporting the tent. Youth chucking his lover under the chin; lady holding a dog.

Migeon 1906: France, 14th century.

Museum's opinion 2014: Northern France, late 13th or early 14th century.

Reverse
Recessed to receive the wax, with a raised border.

Object Condition
Missing: part of the upper border (broke as a result of a drilled hole).
Diagonal cracks in the upper left and lower left corners. Lower left corner stained.

Comments
The companion piece to this writing tablet was in a private collection in London in 2010 (see related object).

Provenance
Collection Albert Maignan (b. 1845, d. 1908); bequeathed by Maignan to the museum in 1908, but entered the collections in 1927.
