Register 1: Crucifixion; swooning Virgin supported by Holy Women; saint John the Evangelist and onlookers holding scrolls. Sun and Moon.
Register 2: Nativity and Annunciation to the Shepherds; Virgin holding Christ's arm; musician shepherd playing the bagpipes; sheep.
Wing, right
Register 1: Resurrection; two angels kneeling on the tomb; two soldiers asleep.
Register 2: Adoration of the Magi.
Pointed trefoils in the spandrels.

Museum's opinion 2011: French, circa 1350-1400.

Two hinges.

Reverse
Flat and smooth. Longer edges chamfered.

Object Condition
Cracked.

Comments
Randall (1985) draws parallels between the grouping and the postures of the Holy Women in this diptych and one in the collection of the Walters Art Museum, Baltimore (71.102).

Provenance
Collection of Reverend E. S. Dewick (d. 1917); Reverend E. C. Dewick, by bequest; bought from him by the British Museum in 1919.
