Four compartments formed by the branches of trees in the centre and on the sides.
Register 1: Meeting of lovers (courting couples); youth chucking his lover under the chin. Lady crowning her kneeling lover with a chaplet.
Register 2: couple making a wreath; youth and lady plucking flowers from a tree. Seated couple; youth chucking his lover under the chin; lady holding a chaplet.
Koechlin 1924: France, 1st half of the 14th century.
Museum's opinion 2013: France, c. 1300-1350.

Reverse
Flat and smooth, with some scoring. Chamfered along the edges. Plaster strip. If this piece once was a mirror case, the raised border and screw thread were subsequently filed.
Object Condition
A section to the left has broken off and been put back into place using a strip of plaster.
Provenance
Given to the museum in 1899 by Mr. Andersen.
