Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges on the left side.
Polychromy - Gilding
Extensive traces of gilding and polychromy. Dark brown or black staining in canopy and background with traces of gilding overlaid, traces of gilding on cross and figures, red paint on details of clothing and figures.
Reverse
Smooth and flat. Modern ink inscriptions: 'W.M' (for William Maskell), 'OW' and '76', in addition to the dalton and British Museum numbers.
Object Condition
Two small drilled holes above arch, one large hole to the left of the cross.
Large areas covered in a brown-grey layer.
Provenance
Collection of William Maskell (b. 1814, d. 1890) (no. 76): bought from him by the British Museum in 1856.
