Female figure wearing a chaplet pierced with small holes; lady holding a box (Pandora?) or a book.

Carved in the round but lower relief on the back. Label with inscription: '221'.

Object Condition
Missing: tip.

Comments
Gems probably were inserted in the small holes of the chaplet, on the box or book she holds and in the drilled pupils.

Provenance
Purchased before 1901 by Fritz Mayer van den Bergh (b. 1858, d. 1901), Antwerp; upon his death, his mother Henriëtte had a purpose-built museum erected (1901-1904) to house his collection.
