Bishop on horseback with mitre and crozier; soldiers holding weapons including crossbows; men holding books.

Object Condition
Missing: back of the mitre.
The heads of a number of the smaller figures are worn or damaged.

Related to a chess piece in the Skulpturensammlung und Museum für Byzantinische Kunst, Berlin (Inv. 667).

Provenance
Acquired in Venice. Collection of A. W. Franks (b. 1826, d. 1897): donated to the British Museum in 1857.
