Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of gilding on book. Polychromy: grey or green paint on book; staining around the Virgin's eyes; blue and pink pattern on chair's reverse; traces of red around edge of chair back.

Reverse
Carved in the round. The back of the chair shows a canopy design, a cross and a trefoil. Part of a nail embedded in chair. Inscriptions corresponding to the Dalton number, the British Museum number. Other faint inscription: '60'. Blank label.

Object Condition
Missing: left arm of Christ.

Provenance
Collection of William Maskell (b. 1814, d. 1890); bought from him by the Museum in 1856.
