Ivory;silver and turquoise (filigree beads of silver set with turquoises)

Height: 27mm (small beads); 44mm and 51mm (primary beads); 63mm (crucifix)

Heads including a pope, a cardinal and kings.
Crucified Christ (crucifix).
Foliated decoration.

Williamson 2002 and Museum's opinion 2009: France or Netherlands, c. 1520-1540.

Carved in the round.

Comments
The ivory ring served to attach the chaplet to the belt of its owner. The chaplet must have been restrung, as the larger beads should be at either end of the decade of smaller beads.

Provenance
Collection of Sir Julius Wernher (d. 1912), Bath House, London; on loan to English Heritage and displayed at Ranger's House since 2002.
