Side 1: bust of a nobleman in profile, wearing a cap and a fur-lined coat.
Side 2: bust of a young woman in profile, wearing a veil, a pearl necklace with a cross, and pearl earrings.
Foliated decoration.

Cologne 2006: Southern Netherlands, c. 1520.


Carved in the round.

The cap worn by the man on side 1 was particularly fashionable between 1517 and 1519 (see Cologne 2006).

Collection of Peter and Irene Ludwig, Aachen (purchased in 1963 from Blumka, New York); on permanent loan to the Museum from 1963 to 2011; donated to the museum in 2011.
