Flat and smooth. Modern paper labels, '21/2' and 'MRH. 22' (for Major Rhode Hawkins).
Object Condition
This piece was certainly cut out from a panel showing the Crucifixion, as is evidenced by the remaining lower border, the flat and smooth reverse and the contours of the figure (remark by Andrea Wähning, July 2012).
Provenance
Collection of Major Rhode Hawkins (b. 1821, d. 1884)(no. 22); bought from him by the British Museum in 1885.
