Meeting of lovers (courting couples); fashionable dress; man wearing a houppelande with long dagged-edged sleeves and a big cloth cap; lady wearing with long dagged-edged sleeves and an elaborate horned headdress (à bourrelet); male musician playing the harp; man holding a flower; trees.
Crosshatched background; roped border.

Koechlin 1924: France, 19th century.
Van Os 1996: Northern Italy, early 15th century.
Museum's opinion 2011: Northern France or Flanders, c. 1425-50.
Rotterdam 2012: Northern France or South Netherlandish, c. 1425.

Object Condition
Central hole in the upper part of the piece, probably for hanging (later). Edge chipped in places.
Missing: border.

Comments
This mirror case may form a pair with another half which was in a private collection in London in 2015. See related objects.

Provenance
On the art market, Paris, in November 1980. Blondeel Gallery, Antwerp; Collection of Willem Neutelings-Neuts, Brasschaat (1981-1986); Jeanne Neutelings-Neuts, Brasschaat (1986-1992); donated by her to the museum in 1992.
