Polychromy - Gilding
Extensive gilding and polychromy: architectural details, dotted pattern on the background, base decorated with a foliated pattern.
Reverse
Flat and smooth.
Object Condition
The pinnacles, the base and the gems and pearls were added in the 19th century.
Comments
In 1873, pearls and gems were already adorning the triptych.
Provenance
Collection of Don Juan Palou Comasema, Palma de Mallorca, in 1873 (see Ferrá and Virenque 1873). Collection of the Countess of Valencia de Don Juan, at least from 1893, as it was exhibited as such at the Exposición Histórico-Europea in Madrid (recorded in 1909 in the handwritten Catálogo General de arte antiguo propiedad de la Condesa de Valencia de Don Juan with the following description: 'Valencia, tríptico pequeño con pedrería, asuntos de la vida de la Virgen, P (París), Francia, s. XIV, 9.750 pesetas').
