Reverse
Recessed to receive the wax, with a raised border. Inscription over eight lines in a medieval cursive hand: statement of accounts; 'six pounds', 'four pounds ten shillings', and 'eight pounds eleven shillings' are legible (Dalton 1909).

Object Condition
Cracked and repaired on the left side.

Comments
Dalton (1909) believes that the writing on the reverse was originally written with a stylus upon wax in the 14th century and has been transferred onto the ivory.

Provenance
Acquired in France. Max Rosenheim collection (b. 1849, d. 1911); donated by him to the Museum in 1893.
