Crucifixion with the Virgin and saint John the Evangelist; Adam rising from a tomb and collecting Christ's blood in a chalice at the foot of the cross; Sun and Moon.
Trefoils in the spandrels.

Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges (?) on the left side.

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of gilding (halo of saint John).

Reverse
Smooth and flat. Chamfered outer edges. A few scratches. Incised circle around a hole in the upper part of the panel.

Object Condition
Central hole in the upper part of the panel.
Missing: left hand of the Virgin, chalice partly broken.

Provenance
Collection of William Burges (b. 1827, d. 1881): his bequest to the British Museum in 1881.
