Crucifixion with the Virgin and saint John the Evangelist; cruciform halo; angels crying.
Angels holding the sun and the moon in the spandrels.


Koechlin Number: 0423

Koechlin 1924: France, 1st quarter of 14th century.
Museum's opinion 2013: France, c. 1350.

Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges on the left side.

Reverse
Flat. Chamfered longer edges.

Object Condition
Very damaged. The panel is broken in several pieces which have been put back together.
Missing: upper left corner and part of the background and of the lower border (replaced with wood).
Several holes are witness to earlier repairs. Edges chipped. Two later holes in the upper part of the panel for hanging.
Crack running down the left side, held together by metal pins.

Provenance
Collection of Mortimer Schiff, Paris: his sale, Leman and Mannheim, Hôtel Drouot, Paris, 13-17 March 1905, lot 275. Collection of M. Bing: sold, Paris, 1921; collection of Mr. Christian Langaard (b. 1849, d. 1922): his gift to the museum.
