Reverse
Curved. The handle which was originally set into a chamfered slot in the back has been lost. Blue and white label with inscription: 'Collection Wernher no. 266'.

Object Condition
The back of the pax is damaged. Central hole in the upper part of the piece.

Provenance
Collection of Simon Edme Paul Jacquinot-Godart (b. 1799, d. 1858), magistrate and president of the royal court of justice in Paris from 1830. Collection of Sir Julius Wernher (d. 1912), Bath House, London; on loan to English Heritage and displayed at Ranger's House since 2002.
