Martyrdom of saint Sebastian; archers with bows and arrows; tree.
Foliated decoration; crosshatched background.

Catalogue 1888: Venetian, 16th century.
Museum's opinion 2013: Italian, end of the 15th century.

Reverse
Concave. The handle which was originally set into a chamfered slot in the back has been lost. Remains of glued paper (?).

Object Condition
Two large holes in the upper and lower parts of the piece where the nails to attach the handle would have been placed.
Missing: part of the upper edge of the piece.

Provenance
In the collection assembled by Alexandre Le Grand for the museum by 1888. Described in a pre-1888 handwritten inventory kept at the museum as: 'Un Instrument de Paix: le martyre de St Sébastien. XVIe siècle.' (p. 6).
