Polychromy - Gilding
Extensive traces of gilding and polychromy: red (loincloth and wound), gold (loincloth; hair and beard).

Reverse
Carved in the round.

Object Condition
Missing: arms and lower legs.
Large hole in the back for attachment to the cross.

Provenance
Collection of Leila Willoughby; by descent to Primula Oliphant, Twickenham; Sotheby's, London, 5 December 1966, lot 109; collection of John Hunt (b. 1900, d. 1976) and Gertrude Hunt (b. 1903, d. 1975), Limerick; now part of the Hunt Museum which opened in 1997.
