Register 1: Meeting of lovers (courting couples); ladies wearing pendant sleeves, and a horned headdress (bourrelet). Youth offering his lover a basket of flowers. Lady playing a portable organ; man playing the harp.
Register 2: Lady with a rod; youth with a purse and sceptre; hawk. Lady making a chaplet; offering of a flower.

Polychromy - Gilding
Faint traces of gilding and polychromy.

Object Condition
Ivory panels mounted on a modern wooden casket. All metalwork, including parts with gilt decoration, is also modern.
On bottom: labelled '952', 'A. 78', 'N 994', '80'.
Slots inside the wooden casket for tokens.

Comments
The casket features in a still life painted in 1868 by Blaise-Alexandre Desgoffe (Parke-Bernet, 25-26 February 1944, lot 150).

Provenance
Collection of Pierre Révoil, Lyon; acquired from him by the musée du Louvre in 1828.
