Presentation in the Temple; maid holding a candlestick and a basket of doves brought as offerings; Joseph holding a candlestick; Christ standing on the altar between the Virgin and Simeon.

Museum’s opinion 2013: French (Paris?), 14th century.

Hinges
Traces of one missing hinge on the right side.

Reverse
Flat. Some scratches.
Blue and white label with handwritten inscription: ‘Collection L. Belmas. 61. Jesus presenté au Temple. Petit bas relief ivoire XVs’.

Object Condition
Some cracks. Traces of glue on the lower edge. Two holes in the upper part of the panel.
Missing: lower part of the panel (lower register). Trace of cutting on the lower edge.

Comments
This piece once was the upper register of a diptych wing which, judging from the placement of the hinge, would have originally been on two registers.

Provenance
Collection of Louis Belmas (no. 61); collection of Ernest Delloye: his gift to the Museum in 1892.
