Reverse
Curved. The handle which was originally set into a chamfered slot in the back has been lost. Traces of glue.
Object Condition
Two sets of two holes in the middle and lower part of the panel, to attach the handle.
Missing: both lower corners. Damage to the back, possibly caused by fire (?).
Provenance
The handwritten Libro de Adquisiciones of the Institute (vol. IV, no. 172) records that a pax and a lead medal were acquired from Don Teófilo Torres Martín in 1929 for 374 pesetas but, as three paxes feature in the collection, in the absence of a description of the pax in the entry, it is impossible to know which one was bought on this occasion (Mingorance 2013).
