Standing Virgin and Child; Christ seated on left arm; Christ in long robe; belt; crown; Christ holding a fruit in his left hand; blessing gesture.

Dalton 1909: French, 14th century.

Attribution
Unknown

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of a gilded border along the mantle. Traces of red pigment in the veil.

Reverse
Carved in the round. Modern ink inscription: 'oλw/-' and '140'.

Object Condition
Face of the Virgin possibly recarved.
The ivory base is of a later date.

Comments
Koechlin (1924) draws some similarities between this statuette and a Virgin and Child in Musée Vivenel, Compiégne.

Collection of William Maskell (b. 1814, d. 1890), (no. 140); British Museum, 1856, by purchase.
