Ivory

Height: 85mm

Virgin, in bust, praying. Christ as Man of Sorrows; crown of thorns. Skeleton, in bust; Death holding a mirror and pointing at its own reflection.
Foliated decoration. Twisted column in the centre.

Museum's opinion 2011: Northern France, late 15th century or early 16th century.

Carved in the round.

Object Condition
Missing: skull.
Chipped around the base. Forehead of Christ chipped.

Provenance
Collection of Mario de Ciccio (d. 1957): given to the Museum in 1957.
