Polychromy - Gilding
Extensive traces of gilding and polychromy: black and gold (foliated decoration; dragon's eye, pattern on the knop, mostly erased pattern on the volute), red (mouth of the dragon) (black and red) on the volute and on the knop.

Reverse
Carved in the round.

Object Condition
Polychromy and gilding worn.
Missing: end of the volute.

Comments
Inv. 4115 is the number given to this piece in the inventario parrocchiale (parish inventory).

Provenance
From the Chiesa del Crocifisso (Bologna), formerly church of Santa Maria Maddalena, part of the Basilica di Santo Stefano. Mentioned by Pullieni de' Lupari in his Relatione historica written in 1600: it was kept in a chest with other relics of saint Isidore.
