Twelve apostles in bust with their attributes.
Register 1: saint Peter; saint John the Evangelist; saint Paul.
Register 2: saint Andrew; saint James the Greater; saint Bartholomew (tbc).
Register 3: saint Stephen; two male saints (tbc).
Register 4: saint with a saw; saint with a club; saint with a spear (tbc).
Body, front
Coronation of the Virgin.
End, right
Body, back
Noli me Tangere (Christ appearing to saint Mary Magdalene).
End, left
Adoration of the Magi.
Crosshatched background. Foliated decoration.
Checkered pattern on the bottom, with intarsia.
Incised monogram in Gothic script on the lock plate: 'ni' (?; difficult to read, as all minims).

Koechlin 1924: France, end of 15th century.
Mallé 1969: Northern Italy, 2nd half of the 15th century.
Turin 1996: Northern Italy or Eastern France, 2nd half of the 15th century.
Museum's opinion 2010: Germany (Nuremberg), 2nd half of the 15th century (1480-1500).


Polychromy - Gilding
Extensive use of polychromy and gilding.

Object Condition
Missing: strip above the lock on the front; checkered pattern very damaged.

Known between ca. 1950 and 1987 as Inv. 131.

Acquired from Mr. Fea in 1909.
