Walrus ivory

Depth: 18 mm

Side 1: Nativity; hanging lamp; swaddled Christ; curtain.
Angel and star in the spandrels.
Side 2: Crucifixion with the Virgin and saint John the Evangelist; Virgin with hands crossed on her chest; sun and moon.

Hinges
Traces of three missing hinges on one side.

Reverse
Carved on both sides.

Object Condition
Missing: small loss in upper left corner (when facing the Crucifixion side).

Provenance
Collection of John Hunt (b. 1900, d. 1976) and Gertrude Hunt (b. 1903, d. 1975), Limerick; now part of the Hunt Museum which opened in 1997.
