Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of gilding and polychromy (red on lips). Gilding postdates the cracks.
Reverse
Carved in the round.
Object Condition
Ivory very cracked.Missing: body of Christ.
Evidence of strikes to nose, cheeks, and forehead. The chipped parts have been lightly re-carved (fringe on forehead, beard, edges of moustache). The eyes have been re-carved.
Comments
The full statuette would have been 400mm high (Gaborit-Chopin 2003).
