Hinges
Traces of one missing hinge on either side.

Flat and smooth.
Printed label: '121' with handwritten inscription 'Greg collection'.

Object Condition
Missing: upper part of the gable; lower register(s). Right hand of the Virgin partly broken.
Hole under the arch.

Comments
The scene would have originally continued on the upper register of the next wing to the right (certainly with Joseph holding Christ). See Toledo Museum of Art, inv. 50.304 for a similar iconography depicted on a single wing, or a tabernacle at the Art Gallery of Ontario (107356) with this design on two wings but with the Virgin facing the opposite direction.

Provenance
Donated to the British Museum in 1921 by Mrs M. Greg in memory of her husband, the collector Thomas Greg.
