Comments
Given its iconography, this panel should be a left wing, which would presumably have faced a Crucifixion scene. Koechlin indeed identifies this piece as the left wing of a diptych, however, three notches along the left side of the panel, visible in the photographs, may indicate that it originally was a right wing.

Esparza Urroz, in 2007, mentions that this piece was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War, but he repeats the mistake initiated by Bertaux, identifying it as a piece formerly in Torre de las Arcas (Teruel). This confusion was corrected by Estella Marcos in 1984, as she stressed that the Virgin and Child panel was in the Pina church in Zaragoza, whereas the Torre de las Arcas piece (a pax) featured the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist.
